Near Video On Demand (NVOD) [EtherGuide Glossary]

An NVOD or Near-Video On Demand one-way video system that emulates an interactive video-on-demand service through clever switching between a looping main channel and a series of repeating time-shifted services each of which delays, by a common number of minutes, the content of the preceding channel in the sequence.

In the NVOD example, and the introduction to NVOD.

By using an extremely short cycle time, say 1 minute, near video on demand is nearly indistinguishable from video on demand. (If the receiver were to cache 1 minute or so of content, the service could be made indistinguisable from video on demand.
