DVB Asynchronous Serial Interface [DVB-ASI]
DVB-ASI is a high-bandwidth (216 megabits per second) widely used electrical interface designed to be used as input to and output from broadcast, cable and satellite encoders and similar transmission equipment.
While the data rate for DVB-ASI is 270 megabits per second, the throughput is 216 mb/sec. That is because for every 8 bits of data that is input to the DVB-ASI interface, the origination device converts each 8 bits of data to 10 bits for transmission.
The extra two bits are used to equalize the data across the spectrum by adding bits that are complements to the transmitted data. DVB-ASI links, having been designed for one-way high-speed communications, provide no parity, error-checking or error-recovery mechanisms.
