EtherGuide Prophecy
Save money while keeping viewers informed and honoring
FCC PSIP rules
Flexibility, reliabilty, compliance and extensibility at an affordable
price!
For some time, broadcasters have been seeking
a hardware-based PSIP generator with fully compliant PSIP and MPEG-2 broadcast
metadata output, but at an affordable price
By building in the power and flexibility of the industry-standard Programming
Metadata Communications Protocol (PMCP) [ATSC A/76] data exchanges from the start, EtherGuide
Prophecy delivers PSIP/PSI generation at a price lower than some competitors
charge for just a PMCP upgrade!
When you decide to begin ATSC M/H broadcasting,
EtherGuide Prophecy can be field upgraded to provide ATSC MDTV signaling and a
syncronized M/H Service
Guide for all your mobile simulcast channels

Until the arrival of EtherGuide Prophecy, broadcasters
were given Hobson's choice: either use a software-only PSIP generator that
frankly doesn't comply with ATSC standards, or buy an expensive hardware-based
unit from a large, arrogant company whose systems are built around proprietary
interfaces and whose employees are known for blamng customers for the
company's failings.
EtherGuide Prophecy is something quite different, a PSIP/PSI generator and emitter that is designed from the ground up to support ATSC A/76, the Programming Metadata Communications Protocol (PMCP) that lowers the cost and complexity of populating PSIP/PSI data tables from traffic, automation and program management systems.
EtherGuide Prophecy can also be manually configured and reprogrammed using our
easy-to-use (truly) graphical user interface.
By concentrating on data exchanges using PMCP via
TCP/IP and UDP/IP connections, EtherGuide Systems was able to keep the price of
hardware-based EtherGuide Prophecy lower than that of 'comparative' systems that
require the customer to provide the computer and operating system. Some
hardware-based PSIP generators actually charge more for their PMCP upgrade
option than the EtherGuide Systems price for EtherGuide Prophecy.
EtherGuide Prophecy imposes no compromises to achieve our cost-effective price point. What we've eliminated is support for expensive proprietary interfaces and features like Enhanced-VSB, Enhanced AC-3, Advanced Common Application Platform (ACAP), Directed Channel Change,
Tribune Media Services program listings and others that few broadcasters will
ever be interested in delivering or using. Aside from Tribune Media
Services, all these features are (or will) be available as as optional features
that can be field upgraded when the need to offer them strikes your station.
Many stations are now studying how and when to
offer mobile digital TV under the emerging A/153 standard. EtherGuide
Systems has been deeply involved in development of A/153. EtherGuide
Prophecy+MH has all the features of EtherGuide Prophecy, plus the ability to generate ATSC M/H signaling, and the ATSC M/H Service Guide for
simulcast channels. (EtherGuide
Emissary offers broadcast metadata for all MDTV services.)

an email inquiry at your earliest convenience.
System Features
- Generates all mandatory PSIP tables plus optional Event Extended Text Tables (EETTs),
Channel Extended Text Tables (CETTs) and Rating Region Table (RRT) for region 1
(US + possessions)
- Automatically generates all ATSC-mandatory descriptors in Terrestrial Virtual
Channel Table (TVCT), Event Information Tables (EITs) and Program Map Table
based on transport stream settings
- Reliable, trouble-free operation; which has been used on-air for several years with
zero reliability issues
- User can easily and quickly configure EtherGuide Prophecy to generate MPEG-2
Program Association Table and Program Map Table sections that comply with ATSC
standards and can be syncronized with Event Information Tables to generate
cable-compliant PMTs
- Powerful, easy-to-use graphical user interface with built-in diagnostic and
operational feedback, including instantaneous PSIP/PSI bit rate output
- Full pid flexibiity: assign Event Information Tables and Extended Text Tables to any unused packet id
without packet id collisions
- User-configurable repetition rates for Event Information Tables (other than
EIT-0) and Extended Text Tables enable you to minimized PSIP bit rates while maximizing EPG usability
- Most users will find out that EtherGuide Prophecy software maintenance charges, when added to
the fee for separately-provided TitanTV Master Control Utility will power accurate PSIP listings at a lower cost than other PSIP vendors charge for just software maintenance
alone
- Operation can be remotely reconfigured or monitored via secure Internet
connection
- Enables compliance with all applicable FCC PSIP rules section
- Closely integrated with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express (included) for reliability and extensibility
- 5 year limited warranty on hardware (depot return); one year warranty on EtherGuide software
Optional Features
- DVB-ASI input, output or both
- SMPTE-310 input, output or both
- EtherGuide Channel Swapping, which permits integration of channels and EPG events from an
input transport stream with locally-generated content
- Application Programming Interface permitting user-defined interfacing beyond PMCP
using Microsoft SQL Server and/or ADO.Net
- Optional support for ATSC M/H signaling and M/H Service Guide for simulcast
channels
- Alternative platform configurations, including your preferred
server platform
- Software support and maintenance (free for the first year of service)

table sections |
| System Time Table (STT) | Program Association Table (PAT) |

Provided elementary stream, caption and AC-3 audio data elements have been properly into EtherGuide Emissary and is linked to individual virtual channels and EPG events, EtherGuide Prophecy constructs all mandatory descriptors in TVCT entries, Event Information Tables and (when generating MPEG-2 PSI) Program Map Table sections.
Table section timing jitter is generally within 8 milliseconds. Overall timing accuracy is limited by the network timing reference provided to EtherGuide Prophecy. |
